My First Year as a Celebrant

Hello and welcome to my new monthly blog post about celebrancy. It is a year since I made the decision to hang up my red pen and leave teaching to become a celebrant full time. There were so many transferable skills that I could use to complement the Level 3 Diploma in Celebrancy from https://www.civilceremonies.co.uk/

After all, running a weekly assembly for year 11 has to be more difficult than writing and holding a ceremony for a loved one right? All the things I loved about teaching, getting to know young people and their families, giving value to individuals no matter what their background or ability, watching them grow with the satisfaction of feeling that I had a little part in that are all fundamental elements of being a celebrant too. The big difference is that I work for myself now and I can take the time to do these things well.

Last August I did my training and met five budding celebrants, they are some of the best people you could meet and we continue to support each other to this day. Amanda, Dee, Lindsey, Marie and Tahla are all on their way to working as celebrants too - we've all approached things at different rates depending on our circumstances, but we all know how it tough it can be to get started and understand what we're each going through.

Most of my work so far has come either from clients who have contacted me directly or through www.emotionsfunerals.co.uk who were brave enough to take a chance on me last year and have recommended me to their families repeatedly since then.

In my next blog I will be taking a look at some of the events and people that inspired me to change career in my fifties!
